Fulfilling our mission of creating special places means delivering high quality products and service. And that requires discipline, rigor, and good training.
One of our clients recently said that you should never lead a retreat, only an advance! But sometimes you have to spend a little time away from the day-to-day business in order to truly advance. That’s what we recently did at our 2013 JJCA retreat, a few days spent in the woods to sharpen our focus, advance our skills, and reconnect as a team, particularly as we’ve added several new folks over the past year.
We used a quote from Vince Lombardi’s first team meeting with the Green Bay Packers to set the tone about our approach to quality:
“Gentlemen, we are going to relentlessly chase perfection, knowing full well we will not catch it, because nothing is perfect. But we are going to relentlessly chase it, because in the process we will catch excellence. I am not remotely interested in just being good.”
During our retreat, we reviewed every major aspect of our practice, sharing how we approach drawings – CAD and REVIT, specs, communications, Lean Delivery, experience economy, etc. We also developed a curriculum for further training and improvement throughout the year.
But it wasn’t all work. We spent a little time taking in the fall scenery, playing games and just rocking on the porch.
