And one to grow on…

And baby Hank (officially Henry Lewis Whitfield) makes 5!  That’s right, Hank is our fifth new JJCA addition in less than a year.  Weighing in at 7 lbs. 1 oz. , Hank came into the world at 3:07 p.m. on Earth Day, Sunday, April 22.  Congratulations to proud parents, Jill and Lewis Whitfield.

CSI: Nashville

No – we aren’t preparing for a crime scene investigation!  But we have further honed our skills related to construction documents.  JJCA achieved a number of Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) certifications in April.  Congratulations to the following folks who recently earned CSI designations:

Noel Bendure, CDT (Construction Documents Technology)
Linda Mark, CCCA (Certified Construction Contract Administration)
Susan Sanders, CDT (Construction Documents Technology)

JJCA celebrates year 21 with BBQ

JJCA came of age – celebrating our 21st birthday on April 21 – at the annual Founders Day BBQ.  It may have been a little cold outside, but we spent our time indoors in David Brown’s family room, aka JJCA daycare center, where our bumper crop of new babies got their first chance to party JJCA-style.   JJCA chefs Tim Morgan, Brett Pielich, Julia and Keith Covington, did it again, serving up some of the finest BBQ you’ll ever taste.

Meanwhile, at Vanderbilt hospital, Jill Whitfield was just getting to grow the JJCA family a little bigger…  check it out here.

TSU has TIGER of a research facility

TSU recently held a ribbon cutting for their new TIGER (TSU Interdisciplinary Graduate Engineering Research) Institute, located in the Research and Sponsored Programs building, originally designed by JJCA in 2007 as a state-of-the-art research facility.  JJCA was re-engaged to build out 9,500 total square feet of shell space that had been left empty during original construction to create the additional research labs that will house material sciences, renewable energy and computational modeling research.”

The institute, funded with a $1.2 million ARRA grant, currently has seed research funding and partnerships from the National Science Foundation, Department of Homeland Security, the U.S. Air Force, Boeing and General Motors in the areas of science visualization and computation, cyber-security, smart sensor networking, nano-materials and advanced energy systems.

It’s great to be AL!VE!

One of the most interesting projects we’ve been involved with at JJCA is the development of a truly unique concept in total wellness.  Working in conjunction with our longtime client Hayes Green Beach Hospital in Charlotte, Michigan, we’re proud to have had an opportunity to put “mind, body and soul” into the design and development of an amazing facility that promises to elevate the physical, mental and spiritual health and fitness of an entire community.  Read more about it in this recently published article, AL!VE and Well, in Healthcare Design.
