Al!ve and well.

It’s wellness center, gym, nutrition, rehabilitation, support group, community center – and more – all rolled into one.  When the first phase of Al!ve, a health and wellness center operated by Hayes Green Beach Hospital in Charlotte, Michigan, opens to the public in early November, it will be a one-of-a-kind facility.    JJCA has enjoyed a long history of involvement with Hayes Green Beach and Al!ve and wishes them great success on the upcoming launch of this unique facility!

It’s a dirty job…

Please enable Javascript and Flash to view this Flash video.

We always knew he had the spirit of a warrior.  So it was no surprise when our fearless leader, David Brown, leaped across fire, ran through mud, scaled large walls, and scrambled beneath barbed wire – all for camaraderie, the joy of competition, and, of course, a large turkey leg.  (In case you don’t know, David is the tall one you’ll find in the first couple of photos.)

Check out David’s photos from this past weekend’s “Warrier Dash”, a 3.15 mile obstacle course.  David says it was quite a spectacle – a mix of Bonaroo and a Survivor Drill.   For someone who says he hasn’t run three miles in ten years, it seems he did pretty well, finishing 113th out of 611 people in his age group, and 1,637th out of 6,360 people.   It took  him just 38.06 minutes to get to that turkey leg…

Budget-conscious

Calais Regional Hospital

You can’t get much closer to Canada than Robins and Morton, we really focused on finding the most efficient ways possible to deliver a high quality project, on time and on budget. And we did – making up for a nearly $750,000 shortfall without exceeding the project’s approved budget.

Today’s Calais Regional Hospital is a one-story facility that reflects the local architecture through the use of hardiplank siding, shingles and wood trusses. Wood trusses continue through the open, two-story interior mall. The critical access facility includes a twenty-five-bed patient care unit and OB department with two LDRP rooms, as well as emergency, radiology, surgery and outpatient departments.

MTSU dorm gets a back-to-school facelift

Please enable Javascript and Flash to view this Flash video.

Students entering or returning to MTSU this fall are being met with a fresh-faced dorm.  In addition to renovations and an exterior face lift, JJCA designed additions that included a  2,000 SF 24-hour station (offices and computer lab) as well as a new  secured courtyard between buildings.  The new design features a common lounge/ kitchen/ study/ laundry space in an existing breezeway, incorporates accessible rooms, heightens security on the motel- style dorms, and adds new MPE systems.

David Brown remembers 9/11

I was talking with my wife after we watched several shows commemorating that awful day. As we watched, I was hit by how horrible and senseless the act was, but at the same time the beautiful way God made us to respond in his bitter sovereignty. What other time in my memory have I seen such bravery, felt such a oneness with my country, such a willingness to sacrifice for who she is and who I hope her to be for my children. I am grateful and sad at the same time.

On that day, 10 years ago, I was working in my home office in Maitland, Florida. This was when I was trying to open a branch there. It was a challenging effort and one that ultimately led me back to Nashville and allowed me to embrace this place as home.

But on 9/11 I was working in my office, and I got a call from my wife to turn on the TV. She was at a Bible study and on her way home. One plane had already hit the tower. We had a friendly yard man named Rudy and he was spraying fertilizer outside. It was a beautiful Florida day. I was awestruck at what I saw. When I had heard that a plane hit the towers, I thought it was a little Cessna or something. But I turned the TV on and then brought Rudy in and we watched the coverage together. We just kept repeating ourselves watching in horror. The rest of the day was just spent watching it all go down. Trying to work, but just deeply disturbed at the same time.

In the next few days I had to travel, I remember the ghostly silence of the airport, walking through the typically busy Orlando airport alone – usually packed with Disney visitors – there were only a few business travellers like myself. I wore my flag lapel pin and did what I could – I was determined terrorists would not stop me from working and using my freedom to do so. I heard a quote from General Stonewall Jackson that said something to the effect that if we believe and trust in God’s plan for us, then we are as safe on the battefield as we are in our beds. I took that to heart and still do as we all travel around this great country doing what we love.

“Captain, my religious belief teaches me to feel as safe in battle as in bed. God has fixed the time for my death. I do not concern myself about that, but to be always ready, no matter when it may overtake me. Captain, that is the way all men should live, and then all would be equally brave. “
