Safety First
Safety first – for both patients and staff – should be a driving force in designing behavioral healthcare facilities. An open nurses’ station that encourages patient interaction and provides clear views of patient areas must be balanced with appropriate off-stage work and retreat areas for staff. Ultimately, operational support and a cultural acceptance of an open design are critical.
JJCA has been involved in the design of numerous behavioral healthcare facilities, including the recently completed Springwoods Behavioral Health facility in Fayetteville, Arkansas, recently featured in the Behavioral Healthcare’s Design Showcase.
