David Johnson Becomes EDAC Accredited

In his more than 25 years of experience of  working on hundreds of hospitals to create patient-centered spaces, David Johnson has been an avid follower of the principles of evidence-based design.  So it is no surprise to all of us who work with David here at JJCA that he has demonstrated his knowledge by becoming EDAC-accredited.

EDAC stands for Evidence-based Design Accreditation and Certification and is a program that has established new standards for individuals who are using an evidence-based design process for healthcare building projects. An EDAC
accredited individual can help make design decisions and recommendations based upon the best available research information. Using this process has been proven to produce measurable improvements in healthcare facility
clinical outcomes, economic performance, productivity, customer satisfaction and cultural measures, among others.

Congratulations David!

Advice on Masterplanning a Small Hospital

Read David Johnson’s recently published article in Health Facilities Management that provides advice to smaller, community hospitals about the process of master planning.    Find out what traits are shared by smaller facilities that have implemented successful masterplans, such as flexibility to support changing technology, widely varying census numbers, and future growth.

It’s all about “M.E.”

Please enable Javascript and Flash to view this Flash video.

In late September, the JJCA team retreated to Asheville, North Carolina for a little “M.E. time.”  In keeping with the theme “It’s all about M.E.”, everyone was treated to a little free time customized just as they wanted it.  But the theme took on a new twist when everyone learned during the retreat workshop that “M.E.” stood for “memorable experiences,” both for employees and clients.

We know that our ability to deliver memorable client experiences is dependent on maintaining an inspirational employee culture.  Team members were clearly inspired as they broke into three groups and came up with several ways to define – and illustrate – the JJCA culture:
•    A diverse combination of talents unlocking success
•    On the ultimate JJCA adventure
•    Real life, real architecture, real family

We also spent a great deal of time reflecting on our processes and began working on innovative ways to provide truly memorable experiences for our clients including, a more comprehensive and in depth “mock design studio” for design development,  customization of invoicing to match client’s needs , customization of project reporting during construction and much, much more!

AL!VE

We are excited about the groundbreaking of a truly unique concept in health and wellness sponsored by Hayes Green Beach Hospital, with design by JJCA.   AL!VE is an $18 million project incorporating  a wellness/fitness center, physical rehabilitation services, women’s health options, integrative medicine, spa services, café and demonstration kitchen, walking trails, community rooms and more.   JJCA’s experience with the intricacies of HUD 242 financing came in handy, as project funding is being guaranteed by this program.

JJCA Goes International

We’ve recently had the pleasure to begin working with a physician in Vietnam who operates several clinics throughout Vietnam. When he decided to provide a “western-style hospital” in Ho Chi Minh City, he already knew that he wanted to contact JJCA.  He’d seen an article in Healthcare Design Magazine about our work with Bailey Medical Center and the rest, as they say, is history.  We are now in the process of designing a nine-story, 27,500 square meter project including a full-service hospital and medical office space.

Though we’ve worked in many states around the country – including a current project in Alaska – this is our first international experience and it is really expanding our cultural horizons.  In fact, we were there as Vietnam was celebrating their version of Independence Day with fireworks – much as we do. We’ve learned that motorbikes rule the roads there – and getting across the road is like playing human frogger.  We did some site seeing and shopping in craftsman villages in Vietnam, the Cu Chi tunnels and the Mekong Delta.

Watch for more updates as we export western healthcare architecture to Vietnam!
