Serving Others

A few weeks ago I had the the wonderful opportunity to go to Mexico on a short term mission trip.  A group of 10 of us went to a school for the deaf called Rancho Sordo Mudo where we spent 8 days serving the staff and children at the school.  We worked on a broad range of tasks including construction projects, washing clothes, cooking and serving meals, cutting the kids hair and weeding out landscaping.  The trip was life changing and really changed my perspective on what is important in the big scheme of life.  It was such a joy to put aside my personal needs and preoccupation of meeting deadlines and just be able to wake up each day and serve the staff and kids at the ranch in any capacity.  If you ever have the chance to go on a short term mission trip I highly recommend taking the time to experience the joy of helping others who are less fortunate.  I hope you enjoy some of the pictures from the trip.

The Revitsults of our Training…

We at JJCA always like to stay up on the latest technology. We’ve all gone through an intense training process to learn the latest version of Revit modeling software. Instead of drawing a building in 2 dimensions, we’re now modeling many of our current projects in 3 dimensions. There are multiple benefits to this software, and just a few are highlighted below.

Revit facilitates coordination with Engineers – Revit allows all the engineering disciplines to be incorporated into the model. The program then checks for physical conflicts between the various systems, ensuring that any errors are caught well before construction begins.

JJCA is currently designing an addition to Effingham Hospital in Revit. Effingham is a rural critical care hospital located in Springfield, GA.

Revit allows for accurate sun-study modeling. With careful thought to site orientation and window shading, we can use Revit’s sun tools to make our hospital designs more energy efficient.

Revit models can be viewed by anyone. Revit can quickly be exported as a Google Sketchup file. Since Sketchup is a free and user friendly program, our Revit models can be easily emailed to our clients for viewing. This allows hospital staff and administration to visualize their new hospital throughout the design process.

Revit makes it easier to get accurate pricing numbers – Because Revit models take real construction techniques and materials into account during the modeling process, calculating amounts of materials required materials is much easier. Revit can also calculate the square footage of the entire building, or each individual room with just a few clicks.
