Gone are the days of the old model of frozen food "heat and serve" school kitchens. Preparing and delivering fresh, delicious meals in an appealing way was the focus for the project to renovate and expand the Ensworth dining hall to double its size in order to accommodate the school population on this K-8 campus.
The existing kitchen was expanded significantly to provide for cooking prep stations, larger refrigerated space, expanded dish washing, and a spacious serving area. The servery includes three separate food stations that allow students to spend less time in line and more time enjoying freshly prepared meals. Digital food menus at the start of the servery, as well as at each station, help educate students on the nutritional value of their meal choices.
The expansion of the dining hall allowed for four new classrooms to be added on the lower level. The location of these classroms in the center of campus provides maxium flexbility in how they can be used.
When a community can’t quite swallow the cost of a new hospital, JJCA's healthcare practice leader, Stephanie Pielich, says phasing into bite-size chunks makes funding easier.
