Charlotte, Michigan
Renovation
Size: 73,500 SF
Construction Cost: $8M

AL!VE, a collaborative effort between Hayes Green Beach Hospital and the community of Charlotte, Michigan, is an innovative, experiential concept combining traditional hospital services with wellness to promote healthy lifestyles. Adaptive reuse of an unoccupied grocery store building transformed an otherwise abandoned site into a valuable community asset envisioned as a prototype for other communities. Much work went into designing the facility, training staff, and developing programming that helps people overcome the obstacles to getting and staying healthy.

  • Working on AL!VE required us to learn a new language as none of the rooms have "normal" names. Every room's name is a verb....Empower, Move, Build, Nourish, Journey, Breathe, Collaborate, Learn, Grow, etc. Very healthy!
